Today is a day for change
On New Year's Eve, did you wear white to pay homage to Oxalá, the orisha of life, peace and transformation? Did you throw gladiolus into the sea for Iemanjá and jump seven waves to overcome the difficulties that the new year will bring? Perhaps you're not a follower of African religions and preferred to start the year by thanking the Lord for the blessings received in 2023 and asking that 2024 be a year of peace and love? Or perhaps you follow another calendar and today was the day to meditate on the teachings of the Rambam?
Whatever your religion, the first day of the year is a day when new paths open up for you, today is a day of change. As long as you put the good New Year's resolutions into practice, of course. Today is the day to abandon old formulas that no longer serve you, think positively, be proactive and push for a better world. It's time to give up old certainties and obtuse rules and go out into the world in search of your own truths. Today is the day to remember that "Truth does not become more true because the whole world agrees with it, nor less true even if the whole world disagrees with it", as Maimonides once said. It's time to think with your head and give less importance to social networks, the culture of cancellations and the cultivation of hatred.
Today you're going to start giving up everything that hurts you and doesn't help you grow. It's the day to set limits on those who don't respect you and no longer deserve to walk life's paths alongside you on equal terms. From today onwards, you'll start to respect yourself more and value yourself as a creative individual full of potential, even if it's not recognized by those around you. You will stop blaming others for everything that goes wrong and take responsibility for your own life. Today is the first day of a change, a change that will last for the next 364 days.
Today is the day to value syncretism in the fight for a better world.
